I do (But…. I don't): Decide To Be Decisive

Life is a collection of continuous decisions. It can be simple as 'what time to get up in the morning', or 'what to wear to office today' or as complex as 'should I take a loan' or "should I buy the new car" etc.

Here are a few guidelines that have proven to be useful to me.

#1. What’s the objective?
This is basically to establish why I am making the decision in the first place and what I intend to get out of it.

#2.Gather all the necessary information
Sometimes we are in groping in the dark since we don’t have the adequate information. Try as much as possible to get all facts together before the final verdict.

#3.Worst case scenario?
Evaluate the probable consequences of each decision. Would I be able to live with it, if in case reality turns ugly?

#4. Weigh your options
Seeing things on paper, goes a long way towards finding perspective. The traditional list of pro’s and con’s will do wonders. Or it can even be a creative sketch. Use what ever that works for you.

#5. Ask for advice
There may be others who have gone through a similar experience. Find out their insights on the matter. They can’t make the decision for you, however they could help you make the decision.

#6. Take your time
I generally take a long time to decide things (I am referring to "huge" decisions, not minor day to day ones!). However, when I decide something it is usually final. I don’t go back and fourth asking my self ‘What If’. So if there is no life threatening deadline , take your time; don’t be hasty. After all, we are what we are today because of the decisions we made in the past. The same goes for the future!

Is there anything else, you can add to this list?

This Is My Now (Centenary Post)

Once, upon a time, about 9 months ago.. I began my blogging journey with a simple welcome post. I must admit, developing a blogging voice was difficult. Ideas were hard to come by. Thus, it is a bit hard for me to realize that I am actually writing my centenary post!

Initially, I wanted to check out what blogging was. It was more or less an experiment that turned out to be hobby! Of course, I had several other reasons for starting a blog. It has been a great experience for me so far. I have made loads of friends (across continents!) and learnt a lot on numerous things.

So today, I would like to dedicate my centenary post to all my readers.

Thank you very much for your comments, email and links. It is very much appreciated. The feedback you have given me has been very useful to me.

A special ‘thank you’ out to Mattyfor her continuously encouragement. Did you know that you are the top commentor for Enhance Life? he he. Your insights are truely appreciated.

If you have any ideas that would enhance this blog, please don’t hesitate to let me know. Quite a few people have already given me couple of topics to write about. While I have written some of them, I haven’t forgotten the others.

What about you? Is there a specific topic you want me to write about?

Moments In Life

Author Unknown

There are moments in life when you miss someone
so much that you just want to pick them from
your dreams and hug them for real!

When the door of happiness closes, another opens;
but often times we look so long at the
closed door that we don't see the one,
which has been opened for us.

Don't go for looks; they can deceive.
Don't go for wealth; even that fades away.
Go for someone who makes you smile,
because it takes only a smile to
make a dark day seem bright.
Find the one that makes your heart smile.

Dream what you want to dream;
go where you want to go;
be what you want to be,
because you have only one life
and one chance to do all the things
you want to do.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet,
enough trials to make you strong,
enough sorrow to keep you human and
enough hope to make you happy.

The happiest of people don't necessarily
have the best of everything;
they just make the most of
everything that comes along their way.

The brightest future will always
be based on a forgotten past;
you can't go forward in life until
you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying
and everyone around you was smiling.
Live your life so at the end,
you're the one who is smiling and everyone
around you is crying.

Don't count the years-count the memories...........

London Human Rights Leaders Recognised

David Chen of BEN TV with his Human Rights Ambassador Award and Mary Shuttleworth
2007-06-15 00:23:51 - Youth for Human Rights International World Tour 2007 Comes to London

An international human rights education and campaigning group this week visited London as part of its 2007 World Tour. The Founder & President of Youth for Human Rights International, Mary Shuttleworth met with human rights leaders and addressed dignitaries and human rights advocates at an event on Wednesday 30th May, hosted by the Church of Scientology London.

At the event were representatives of different organisations interested in forwarding this message to educate people about what their human rights are as by survey around 90% don't actually know.

Speaking at the event was Simon Chorley of Stop the Traffik, 'it is obscene that whereas men used to be the main targets, it is now women and children, with 80% of trafficking victims being female and over half being children-.

Simon enlightened the audience on the hard facts about human trafficking today, now with more people being trafficked than at the time of the trans-Atlantic slave trade.

Human rights ambassador awards were given to individuals for their achievements in ensuring human rights are known about and actually implemented.

David Chen of BEN TV is a pioneer in the field of human rights in a number of ways from airing human rights public service announcements on his TV program to the grass roots level of bringing communities together. Along any avenue possible David is involved in increasing awareness about human rights and making the world a more peaceful place.

Solicitor Richard Clifford has for several years been representing the Chagossian Islanders, who were evicted from their Indian Ocean islands in the 60s. He has won a series of victories in the courts, all with the aim of enabling the islanders to return to their homeland. Richard entitled a paper he wrote about the ongoing case in 2004, 'Chagos Islands - The Land Where Human Rights Hardly Ever Happen.- In addressing the audience on Wednesday, Richard described how in the 1960's & 70's the peoples of the Chagos Archipelago were illegally evicted by Britain so the main island could be leased to the United States, and their long-running campaign to be allowed to return home - a goal that is now much closer to being realised.

Another award winner was 20-year-old racing driver Niki Lanik. Niki made a flying start to his racing career, winning the 2006 Winter Club Clio Championship. After seeing the importance of educating youth on human rights, he races under the banner of Youth for Human Rights, promoting the human rights message in every race, to 100s of thousands through TV coverage.

As 2007 moves on, all who attended agreed to collaborate and work on making human rights a reality.

The purpose of Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) is very simple - to teach youth about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and inspire them to become advocates for tolerance and peace.

When children do not know their rights they are vulnerable. Millions of children have become victims of poverty, HIV/AIDS and human trafficking. In all parts of the inhabited world, children are at risk. Knowledge of their human rights can empower young people to defend themselves and help others.

As humanitarian and founder of the Scientology religion, L Ron Hubbard, once stated, 'Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream-.

Escape From Your Comfort Zone To Bring Out The Best In You

comfort zone
“The Comfort Zone” is where people reside emotionally before dramatic change occurs.

- Bored; There is no excitement in what you do
- You don’t feel motivated
- Monotonous; you are not learning anything new
- Comfortable; no risk, no fear

Are you a member of the “Comfort Zone” ?

You are quite capable of doing a lot more than you are already doing. Am I right?
Uncertainty, fear, risk, and many other factors prevent us from doing what we CAN do.

Think about it; Where are you now? Where do you want to be? What’s possible?

Building A Better Business (Book Excerpt)

Building a better world

Just that..
.. in what ever way you choose.

Each of us is unique, and building a better world also means different things at various stages of life, but it’s essentially about a better life in some way for yourself, or perhaps for those you care for, for family and friends, or for the community you live in and beyond.

Everything you have ever done from the day you were born, from taking a sip of water to solving a problem or ‘saving the world’, is related to this universal human desire for a better life.

Improvement is the key- even if this is just your own feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment, or may be personal comfort right now as you adjust your position slightly while reading this book.

Places To Fish And Find Great Blog Post Ideas

Since I started blogging, one question that I am often asked is, "How do you get ideas to write?"

One of the toughest things that I encounter as a blogger, is the fact that I need to find great ideas. A post idea that will make the reader’s time worthwhile; one that will make a difference; An idea that will enhance your life. A very tough ask! I try my best, and you bear witness to it ;-)

Do you wonder how my little brain(yes, I have one! But I sometimes wonder!) comes up with what I write? It is no secret anymore, here it is.

1. Get floating thoughts out of your head and into your post
If you are to execute this eloquently, you NEED to have a notebook and a pen with you at all times! Write about anything that comes to your mind, however stupid you may think it is! Not much of that goes into my posts, as soon as it is written. I ask myself, "What more should I add to make this a blog post?" With time, I build upon the things I have jotted down.

Examples:
Why Do Smart People Do Stupid Things Sometimes?
Our Lives Tick Off One Second At A Time

#2. Make time for 'Idle' time
When you are involved in many things that require your attention, you might not have any time for floating thoughts. In these situations, you can utilize the time you spend on traveling, waiting in a queue or even taking shower! It works for me. (No, No I don't take a notebook to the shower!)

#3. Participate in ideas that propagates itself.
Blog meme's, tags or group writing projects come under this one. What I like about this is that the topic is handed to me. Thus, I only need to concentrate on the actual content. To a certain extent, it brings back memories of my school English teacher, who used to give me an essay topic to write about ;-)

Tagged: My Simply Successful Secrets
Year 2007: An Invitation To Enhance Your Life - My contribution to “what is the ONE important question a person should ask himself or herself in 2007?”

#4. Surround your writing around your reading
Much of what I write is influenced by what I read. Books, blogs, Magazines, news papers etc .You might want to elaborate on a certain topic that you just read, write a book review or even a book excerpt.

Examples:
Re-imagine by Tom Peters (Book Review)
The Heart Of A Leader By Ken Blanchard (Book Excerpt)

#5. Draw inspiration from your hobbies
Television, Sports, Music …. Can you share something about these with your readers? Well, I have.

Practice What You Preach! - Was related to a Larry King interview
Face The Facts; The Ex-Files My thoughts on an episode of Tyra Banks show

#6. Dissect your day
Yes, it is a summarized version of most of the above points. Basically, random stuff that happens throughout my day. You get a 'peek' into my daily life!

Who Borrowed Your Time Today? – When I was at a lecture
That's A Fake Smile; Say Cheese! – Inspiration from my best friend’s wedding
A Journal Doesn’t Have To Be A ‘Dear Diary’ – Occurred while I was cleaning!

#7. Share your knowledge/tips
When you stumble upon interesting reads, share them with your readers.

A Solution To RSS Information Overload
Best Practices In Naming And Managing Files
Health Watch: Posture Matters!

#8. Listen to your readers (audience)
The comments section, the emails you get could be the source for your next post!

The very fact that I am writing this post is because several people asked me, "how do you get ideas?" :-)

#9. Ask questions
Are We Blogging For Attention?
Are We There Yet?

#10. Expand on already written posts
It can be your post or someone else’s post. If it is someone else’s please make sure you give due credit, by mentioning the author/ blog and linking to the post.

Examples:
Make Money, Not Excuses!
Nine Ways to Dwindle Productivity

#11. Write about latest happenings
You can write a post, based on special days, latest news, the current tech Buzz etc

So This Is Christmas
Can You Survive For 24 Hours Without Your Computer?

#12. Voice your opinions
This can be about something you feel strongly about. It can be contributing your insights to someone else’s blog post. Perhaps you agree, or disagree about a certain post.
