Welcome 2009: Are You Ready?

Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do. ~ Pope John Paul
Happy new year 2009

Let’s make 2009, the best year ever ;-)

New Human Rights Educational Film Launched at the Concert for Human Rights in Brussels

New Human Rights Educational Film Launched at the Concert for Human Rights in Brussels

“60 years after, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights cannot be just a luxury neither a mere auspice,” denounce President of LAW Legal Aid Worldwide.

Brussels, Belgium, December 26, 2008 --(PR.com)-- To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a new human rights educational film has been launched during the “Concert for Human Rights” at the Théatre Royal du Parc, featuring “one of today’s best guitarists”, according the critics, Italian Flavio Cucchi, and French mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Jacques. Keynote speaker of the celebration was Ms. Laura Guercio, President of L.A.W. - Legal Aid Worldwide.

The European premiere of the film titled “The story of Human Rights” was warmly welcomed by the audience composed of diplomats, representatives of European Institutions and agencies and concerned organization of civil society, recognizing the need to dramatically improve the human rights standards in all countries of the world.

As noted by Ms. Laura Guercio, “the Universal Declaration is not luxury neither a mere auspice. Sixty years after the declaration, many members of the human family are still far enjoying the own rights and the own necessities of base.”

The denounce of L.A.W.’s President echoed the recent figures released by UN Agency ILO, International Labor Organization, reporting 30 million men, women and children subjugated all over the world, a figure that exceeds the number of slaves deported from Africa between 1450 and 1900. According to ILO there are over 100 million children exploited in every corner of Earth and over 300,000 child-soldier spread in war torn countries around the world. According to analysis of the UN and the International Organization for Migration, slavery is today the third world market after drug and weapon trafficking, with revenue touching 13 billion dollar yearly.

After 60 years, the world is a very long way from achieving the goals laid down in the Universal Declaration. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Navanethem Pillay, has just warned that “tens of millions of people around the world are still unaware that they have rights that they can demand, and that their governments are accountable to them, and to a wide-ranging body of rights-based national and international law.” The film “Story of Human Rights” serves the purpose of filling the gap of awareness of the unalienable basic rights of all men in all countries, in all Continents.

The concert was organized by the Brussels Committee of the 60th Anniversary of the UDHR, a number of organizations from diverse backgrounds but all committed to improve human rights: Global Human Rights Defense, European Foundation for Human Rights and Tolerance, European Human Rights Office of the Church of Scientology International; L.A.W.- Legal Aid Worldwide; the Protestant Liberal Church of Bruxelles; the Youth for Human Rights International; Institute for Peace and Development and the United International.

Remembering Hallmark Moments Of 2008

Most of the yearly review posts I read (on other blogs) indicated that they had a fairly traumatic 2008(economy etc). This post is a recap of my life this year and what I hope to achieve in 2009.

The Good..
  • I learned a new instrument. I can now play the guitar without driving my neighbors crazy!
  • I am more confident with my driving, than I was a year ago.
  • I now weigh 45Kgs. (I was consistent with my exercise routine and lost about 10Kgs within the year.)
  • I started weaving ideas for a book.

The Bad…
In many areas, I was “playing it safe”. Looking back, I believe could have taken more “calculated risks”.

Lessons learned!
As I have mentioned in the my About page, what I write here is based on my incidental gleanings. 2008, has indeed been an eye opener!

A few noteworthy things I personally came to understand and believe in (…the hard way) this year…
  • Never let anyone persuade me for a “third chance”.
  • Never make someone a priority, who makes me an option.
  • However good or bad a situation is… it will change.
Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning, but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.~Hal Borland

I am thankful…
I’m immensely grateful for all the people who helped me get through several difficult periods of this year.

My Goals for 2009
I am generally a very “private” person. I had to really squeeze my neck to publish this post! I wanted to list this out here, so that I will feel more accountable for it. I plan on reviewing these goals on the last week of December 2009!

Writing: Complete the first draft of my book
Health : Stay true to my exercise routine (no matter how busy!)
Finance: Find ways to double ROI
Love : Take a leap of faith!
Career : Broaden my technical expertise
General : Stop worrying about how big a challenge is and focus on the best way to achieve it.... in stages!

As the last post for this year, let me leave you with this. If you could have one wish come true for the coming year, what would it be?

Dog Bites Attacks - Dangerous World of Possession, Materialism & Weapons

DOG BITES ATTACKS - The Dangerous World of Possession, Materialism & Dogs (As Weapons)

You only have to look at their TEETH to recognize how deep the consequences will be.....

In a world of possession, materialism, weapons and imagery, we often see people using animals in particular dogs, as an attention seeking toy, a protective tool and even as a cheap fashion accessory, in contrast with a Rolex, Fur Coat, Race Horse, Car, etc. We know very well, these types of materialistic objects are not always acquired for reasons of long term investment. Instead these attention seekers, drape themselves with their possessions, in view of the materialistic world.

Some people also use dogs as a means of communicating delusional superiority, self importance and domination over others. These shallow minded vain fools will be guilty of similar acts using other objects. Of course there are idiots who are immediately impressed by such public imagery.

As for those truly irresponsible people who have demonstrated they are really unfit parents by putting their (toy) dogs with small children/babies...... Get Rid of All of These Really Stupid People From My Life!

This post endeavors to bring home the DENIED REALITY of dog people who are fully responsible for the violence and ferocious attacks on children and adults. The owner of these dogs obtained the animal in the knowledge that these dogs could display at any time, with their magnificent fangs, their natural behavior and instincts. Human beings persist with ludicrous notions of superiority on earth, therefore the (physically inferior) dog becomes the Scapegoat and is destroyed, even though it was simply behaving like a Real Dog!

Here are some recent global stories of dog attacks....................

Family's 2 Pit Bulls Kill Rubidoux Man - 19 December 2008 - NBC Los Angeles (USA)
RUBIDOUX, California -- A Rubidoux man was attacked and killed Friday by his family's two pit bulls.

Hospitals See Rise in Dog Bites - 27 February 2008 - BBC (UK)
The number of people treated for dog bites at hospitals in England has risen sharply, according to figures obtained by the Liberal Democrats. NHS statistics show the number attending A&E after a dog attack has risen by more than 40% in the last four years to nearly 3,800 a year. Chloe Grayson (right), nine, is still recovering from a sudden unprovoked dog attack which has left her left cheek seriously scarred.

Dog-Bite Victim Sues - 31 January 2008 - The San Diego Union-Tribune (USA)

Abu Ghraib Dog Tactics Came From Guantanamo - 27 July 2005 - Washington Post (USA)
Military interrogators at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq learned about the use of military working dogs to intimidate detainees from a team of interrogators dispatched from the U.S. detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, according to court testimony yesterday.

Needless to say, Real Guard Dogs are not Toys. Unfortunately there are some irrational people who provoke these dogs to attack people, to intimidate and to check the real ferocity of these animals.

Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib were important training centers for America's Virgin (inexperienced) Soldiers and Playgrounds for intimidation and psychological experiments.

Getting Past Your Past, Is It Really Possible?

Getting past your pastWonderful memories, regrets, mistakes, learning experiences, fun, unforgettable people…. All these and more, make up our past.

“Oh, get over it”, “Let it go”, “move on”…..
Self-help books mention this; may be your friends/loved ones have said it. However, anyone who has a “burdened past”, know how difficult it is.

May be you are still holding on hoping it would last....
May be you are in denial about everything that went wrong...
Just may be..... you were too late ...
..............

Anger, hatred, bitterness, resentments and thoughts of revenge are heavy weights that slow a person down. Allowed to fester, these negative feelings can consume increasingly larger portions of your life. You realize that to be healthy, productive, and successful, you can't stay stuck in it either. So what do you do about it?

1. The past is only alive if you keep it alive

Having said that, I am fully aware that no one is capable of just snapping fingers and erasing the past. Only the characters in the Heroes TV series can do that!
However, no matter what your past burdens are, you need to be able to walk away from them, instead of letting them control your present. Take the lesson you learnt, and learn not to do it again. What happens in the past is exactly that, passed, and you must learn to live for now.

2. Don’t shackle yourself with regret.

We have regrets, feelings of guilt, wishing or thinking we should have done this or that differently. I am sure that you have a list of "should of's" and "could of's"; you may think that if you acted differently or made another choice, that somehow situations might have turned out better. That could be true, but nothing can change the past.
Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.~ Anonymous

3. Appreciate yourself as a tested survivor

Think of all of the times that you have struggled and pulled through! For some of us it is easier to see it as the end and give up, however that goes against pretty much everything that we have stood for up until now. You see, survival is a natural instinct and the reality that you are still here and still alive shows that you have this natural instinct.

4. The future CAN be better than the past

When your past seems overwhelming the inner voice says, "I've failed then so I'll fail now," or equivalent. Being a pessimist doesn't fetch you anything. It only looks good & glamorous only in movies!

Learn from the past but don’t assume that your past automatically equals your future. Fill this life with anticipation. Expect great things will happen to you!
You can’t have a better tomorrow if you are thinking about yesterday all the time.~Charles F.Kettering

Getting past your past, Is it really possible?

The past is a tricky thing. It has shaped you; it has made you who you are today. If it was difficult or painful, you can't just cut yourself off from it. Some scars remain for life. I don’t think that we really "get over" our past. (Just my way of thinking. You are free to disagree or have a different opinion. There is a reason why this post is filed under – Think tank)
To me, “getting over it” doesn't mean forgetting the experience. It simply means going through the process of dealing with the situation, to the point where it can no longer create a block or problem for me.
The question is, 'do you love yourself enough to just let it go?'

Finally…No matter what has gone before, your future and how you feel about it will be a direct result of what you do from now on. It is being shaped right now, moment by moment, as the consequences of your desires, thoughts, dreams, actions, and words begin to crystallize.

Her Name is Ameneh Bahrami and She Wished No Harm........So Why Harm Her?.........Iran Acid Attack

Her Name is Ameneh Bahrami and She Wished No Harm....... So Why Harm Her?.............

To Spend YOUR LIFE in DARKNESS......

KEY POINTS OF AMENEH BAHRAMI'S STORY (IRAN)

  • A man blinded Ameneh in an acid attack after she spurned his marriage proposals. He has been sentenced to the same punishment, in a literal application of Iran's sharia Eye-for-an-Eye Qisa laws.
  • Tehran province criminal court has ordered Majid Movahedi, 27, to be blinded in both eyes from drops of acid in response to a plea from his victim, Ameneh Bahrami.
  • The punishment is legal under the Sharia Code of Qisas, which allows retribution for violent crimes.
  • Bahrami was left horrifically disfigured after Movahedi threw a jar of acid in her face in October 2004. Her injuries led to the loss of one eye and left her blind in the other.
  • She had previously complained to police about being threatened and harassed by Movahedi, but had been told no action could be taken.
  • Asked by the judge if she wanted Movahedi's face to be splashed with acid, she replied: "That is impossible and horrific. Just drip 20 drops of acid in his eyes so he can realise what pain I am undergoing."
  • Ameneh Bahrami, said Movahedi's family had asked her to marry him several times, but she had refused. Movahedi later threatened to kill her. Movahedi said he decided to attack Bahrami after she told him she had married someone else, and pleaded with him to leave her alone.
  • "I decided to splash acid on her face so her husband would leave her and I could have her," he told the court.
  • Tehran's deputy public prosecutor, Mahmoud Salarkia, said the publicity surrounding the case would deter future acid attacks.
  • Majid is allowed to appeal the verdict.

What may be less evident to you is exactly how you can use them to improve your daily life. The next time you read a great quotation, do more than just think it is it very good. Decide to use one of the seven ideas below, to help the wisdom of the quotation benefit you and those around you.

Using Quotes To Make Yourself Memorable

So yes, quotes are a great way to express gratitude, love , admiration, or respect for a person. Believe me, quotes have a way of adding an essence of magic, even to a extra special gift!

5. Humorous/motivating wall hanging
humorous quoteThe environment in which you work has a profound effect on your level of motivation. SHANNON MATTHEWS - £50,000 pounds Of Ill Will Bait From The Sun (Newspaper)

Karen Matthews, Mother (Left) and Shannon Matthews (Right)
Shannon Was Reported Missing - When She Never Was
The Motivation - Money!

The Police Search for Shannon Matthews cost nearly £3.2 million. This was one of the largest searches ever carried out by West Yorkshire Police in England - 200 officers were mobilised, 1,800 properties were searched, 1,760 cars were stopped and three-quarters of all the UK's police dogs were used. Additional Costs will be incurred for Karen's incarceration in Prison, Serving Time at Her Majesty's Pleasure. Karen Matthews Pursued A £50,000 Liquid Cash Reward For Finding Shannon.

*

The Story In Brief

The mother of Shannon Matthews has been found guilty of kidnapping the schoolgirl by drugging her and having her tethered to a wall in order to claim reward money offered for her safe return.

Karen Matthews, 33, and her accomplice, Michael Donovan, 40 - the uncle of Matthews' former partner, Craig Meehan - were today convicted of false imprisonment, kidnap and perverting the course of justice.

The pair concocted a plan in which Shannon was held in Donovan's flat for 24 days, drugged with temazepam and travel sickness tablets, and confined by an elastic strap with a noose on the end, a three-week trial was told. The pair had planned to release Shannon in Dewsbury market where she would be "found" by Donovan, who would then have claimed the various rewards.

Following the verdicts, which took the jury six hours to reach, Justice McCombe warned the pair that they faced a "substantial custodial sentence".

Detective Superintendent Andy Brennan, condemned the pair. "Karen Matthews is pure evil. She started deceiving those closest to her from the very moment that Shannon was kidnapped. Friends, neighbours and family were under the clear impression that Shannon was genuinely missing.''"It's difficult to understand what type of mother would subject her own daughter to such a wicked and evil crime."

After 24 days, Police found Shannon hidden inside the base of a bed in Donovan's flat on March 14. They smashed their way into the flat after reports of strange noises from neighbours.

Prosecutors told Leeds Crown Court that far from being grief-stricken, Matthews was "a proven, consummate, skillful and convincing liar". Sounds Familiar!

Soya and cancer

Soya milk shake Cappuccino flavour
A soya milk and tofu diet reduces the risk of breast cancer, according to research. In an epidemiological study, women who were eating a lot of soy and soy products were 60% less likely than women who ate the least soya to have the "dense" tissue associated with breast cancer.

The following are also types of foods and drinks that protect against cancer by minimising the risk of developing tumors.

Tomatoes. Studies conducted in USA have shown that 3 servings per day greatly cut the risk of prostate cancer. Not only fresh tomatoes have this beneficial effect, but even pizza toppings, pasta sauce and tomato ketchup.

Brazil nuts and grains. They are all rich in the trace element selenium. Trials have found that selenium supplements help cut the risk of prostate cancer.

Broccoli and cabbage. They are rich in glucosinolates, which some studies have shown to reduce the risk of cancer by 50%. They appear to be particularly effective against both breast and colon cancer.

Strawberries. They contain antioxidant chemicals called coumarins. Antioxidants protect against cancer-causing agents. Other kinds of fruits and berries, including raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, cherries, raisins and prunes, also destroy in the blood free radicals which promote cancer.

Green tea. It is rich in antioxidants, which are substances effective against carcinogens (cancer-causing agents). Only one cup per day is recommended.

Garlic. Studies in the USA have shown that people who eat garlic more than twice a week are only half as likely to develop colon cancer as those who do not eat garlic.

Water. Drinking lots of water helps reduce the risk of bladder cancer, because it dilutes the concentration of cancer-causing agents and cuts the time that they are in contact with the bladder lining. A minimum of 8 cups per day are recommended.

Are You Constantly At The Mercy Of Circumstances?

Are You Constantly At The Mercy Of CircumstancesWe just began the last month for this year. I don’t know about you, but I feel like the past couple of months breezed by, too soon! In a few weeks, we will be celebrating yet another new year.

I know a lot of people (including myself) had high hopes for this year. May be you set out by defining goals and objectives. Have you achieved what you set out to achieve?
Now, when you read that question what goes through your mind? Is your mind filled with all the things that went wrong in your life that resulted in a less fulfilling lifestyle? Does your response start with "No, because?"

So what about me? Am I on the right track? Hm…There are areas in my life that I am fairing well beyond my expectations. Then, there are other areas, I haven’t even begun to get on track.

Crap happens to everyone!

We live in a world where things happen that are out of our control, people do things we don’t like, and we get things thrown at us, that we didn’t ask for. When derailed by circumstances, even a positive person will find it difficult to remain positive.

Circumstances may cause interruptions and delays
We all have an unbelievably strong will to survive. So there’s no doubt that irrespective of the current circumstance we will eventually dig ourselves out of it.

However, by the time that happens, it might be too much of an emotional rollercoaster. You would have wasted loads of precious time, and sometimes health may have suffered as well.

Quit blaming your star sign and make the most of circumstances
You might not be able to choose your initial circumstances, but you can choose your attitude toward your circumstances. Sometimes the situation you are in is so tough, that you just cannot work your way out of the problem. You HAVE TO think your way out of the problem.
A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.~Hugh Downs

Regardless of what aspect of your life you may be struggling with; you CAN totally change any undesirable circumstance. First, you have to believe it. Many people have absolutely no confidence in a better future; they accept things just the way they are as if they have no way of changing a thing.

I can’t promise you that it’s going to be easy. I am someone who believes that we can control of how we interpret and respond to circumstances. As easy and straightforward as it might sound, this requires a lot of work!
“We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.” ~Don Juan

In the end, all that matters is that you have enough ambition, enough passion, enough drive to see what you want, visualize the success, and make it happen.
"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them."~George Bernard Shaw

On a wet New Year’s Eve, two police officers were called to a café in Wimbledon where a young woman had collapsed in the doorway, barefoot, bleeding and pleading for help. Banaz Mahmod, 20, told PC Angela Cornes and a colleague that her father had forced her to drink brandy and tried to kill her. That afternoon, her father, Mahmod Mahmod, had driven her to her grandmother’s house, taken her into the living room and ordered her to consume half a bottle of spirits. She had never before drunk alcohol............

Miss Mahmod might be alive today had PC Cornes considered the possibility that she was telling the truth. Instead, the experienced officer, trained in dealing with female victims of violence, sized up the frightened girl and believed her to be a lying, manipulative, attention-seeking drunk......................

Banaz Mahmod was an innocent and vulnerable female. She delivered the highest level of truth and fact about her parent's mindset, education and culture. Banaz Mahmod was a Good British Citizen, an EXPERT and a bridge to understanding and resolving conflict in Multiculturally Diverse Environments.

Too many innocent People have been injured and killed now in such situations, because Public Sector Employees were in fact grossly ignorant, arrogant and clearly unfit for their positions.

A REAL GUARDIAN ANGEL
MARTIN GILBERTSON - FORMER HELL'S ANGEL

In June 2006, IT worker Martin Gilbertson claimed that through his work with the Iqra designing flash macromedia presentations, he met Mohammad Sidique Khan and Shehzad Tanweer, two of the July 7th suspected bombers, and was sufficiently worried about the content of the presentations he was asked to create, that he says he attempted to inform the police of his concerns in 2003.

"In October 2003, I walked into the police station in Holbeck (Leeds West Yorkshire) and said I have something for the Anti-Terrorist Squad. The officer told me to "send it in" to West Yorkshire police headquarters. I sent, by normal mail, a collection of the discs I had made and a covering letter, with my telephone number, to the West Yorkshire police. I added a list of names, including Khan and Tanweer, plus the names of people from whom they were receiving emails. Some of those names were quite surprising, because they included people regarded as mainstream Muslim community leaders. I heard nothing back from the police. Not a word. I only wish I had had some access to MI5 - I probably could have got them in there, before the bombs went off."

By the way, Real Angels flew to different locations, prior to Princess Diana's Death. It appears the Paget report needs (3)Three Additional chapters. When there is Intent to ignore Warnings, it is obvious the actual result is what was wanted and desired by certain people.

The British Fritzl - Another Perverted Gaffer/Father

THE BRITISH FRITZL

Another Perverted "Gaffer" (Father) with A Female Accomplice (His Wife)
What are their Names? Unfortunately the old method of Naming and Shaming in public has disappeared in order to protect the victims.

This man and woman were clearly unfit parents, so why were they allowed to have children?

*

Daily Express - 26 November 2008

........The 56-year-old, who has been compared to the notorious Austrian Josef Fritzl, was given 25 life sentences for the horrific catalogue of rapes and abuse he inflicted on his children..............

25 life terms for 'British Fritzl - The Independent - 25 November 2008

Authorities had numerous chances to intervene in the rape of two daughters by their father.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, impregnated his daughters 19 times, with seven children surviving. All of them have health problems related to genetic abnormalities.

The elder daughter became pregnant seven times and has two surviving children. Her sister had 12 pregnancies and has five surviving children. Two of the sisters' babies died the day they were born.

1988 - Teachers become suspicious when injuries are noticed on the face of one of the girls at school, but they are subsequently blamed on bullying. The other daughter stays away from school with a broken arm. During this time, and on several occasions over the next 14 years, doctors raise concerns with the sisters about abnormalities in the foetuses of their unborn children. One doctor tells a daughter not to have any more children with the same man and questioned the children's paternity. Any involvement with the father is disputed. DNA tests were not carried out.

Early 1990s The family move from South Yorkshire to live in small villages in Lincolnshire.

1997 The brother of the two women goes to police with "hearsay evidence" of incest. Police look into the claim but no further action is taken.

1998 One of the daughters phones ChildLine in an attempt to report the ongoing abuse. She asks for a guarantee that the sisters would be able to keep their children but hangs up when that cannot be given.

2004 The family move back to South Yorkshire, and while social services again become involved, the abuse is not detected.

June 2008 The case comes to the attention of authorities. The father is arrested.

Italian Animal Rights Party forms a new alliance

Italian Animal Rights Party
In preparation for the next European Parliament elections in June 2009, the Partito Animalista Italiano, Italian Party for Animal Rights, has formed an alliance with two other Italian parties: the Environmentalist Party and the Eurosceptics Party.

The new alliance will contest the European elections, which are now only a few months away, and has just joined the EUDemocrats, a Europe-wide, transnational party which has 6 members of the European Parliament in its midst and focuses on the issue of democracy in the European Union.

The new Italian coalition, called “Euro Scettici-Animalisti-Ambientalista”, has begun to get ready for the forthcoming European election and hopes to secure 1 or 2 seats in the European Parliament.

Does it sound ambitious?

"It’s entirely possible” replies Cristiano Ceriello of the Italian Animal Rights Party. “If the European election law, as it seems certain, remains the same, a party only needs 0.7 % of the national votes to elect a member of the European Parliament.

“According to the polls commissioned by us, our new alliance Euro Scettici-Animalisti-Ambientalisti should get 1.5% of the votes, which would allow us to gain 2 seats."

Communication: Words & Expressions That Destroy Your Magnetism

words and expressionPowerful communications are often killed by gratuitous remarks. Sadly, those spoiling their communication efforts are unaware of how they have hurt themselves. The following expressions that are flagged as “connection destroyers” are directly from chapter 6 of The It Factor: Be the One People Like, Listen to, and Remember.

These are words and expressions you are going to recognize in your own speech patterns every day. At first glance, you may argue, “Well that word isn’t so bad,” or “I never took that to be a negative.” Perhaps, some of us are fooled by their subtlety and popularity.

1. Misuse of the Word “Certainly”
If you use the word “certainly” only to answer a yes-or-no question with a positive, direct, and upbeat emphasis, you are one of the rare communications superstars!
If you are using “certainly” in any other situation as an attempt to demonstrate warmth or intensity, you are, sadly, creating a subtle yet nefarious communications disconnect.
If you’re a member of this ill-advised adverb pack, you think the word “certainly” strengthens sentences. It doesn’t.

Example: “We certainly are glad to be here today.”
“Certainly” adds nothing here but a healthy dose of insincerity. The sentence is more meaningful without it. If you were “certainly” glad to be here, you’d go to more trouble and say why.

2. “I Don’t See Why Not”
Trying to weasel out of a commitment with your words casts instant doubts on your credibility and trustworthiness. And it all starts innocently enough.

“I don’t see why not” has lots of dirty little relatives, as they will hurt you just as much. Here’s my short list of “cover your rear” words that can ruin your credibility.
“As far as I know . . .”, “For the most part . . .”

3. “More than Happy” Is More Than Creepy!
“More than happy.” takes no effort and does possible harm. Instead let “happy” stand on its own, and add a sentence or two with an action verb that demonstrates that you are actually
happy to complete the assigned task.
Example: “I’d be happy to bring you cream. I’m heading for the kitchen right now.”
I also want you to be cautious with “really” and “so very much.”
“Really” and “so very much” aren’t communications killers, but they undermine your strength and conviction, and that makes them dangerous.

4. Saying “I Am Sorry” When You Are Not Sorry
I plead guilty for this one. It’s one of those people-pleasing aspects.
Here is the simple rule: Don’t say you are “sorry” when you aren’t.

You can smell the dishonesty in the room when someone says in a harsh tone, “Well, I’m sorry, but I just have to disagree.” You know they aren’t sorry at all. They are indignant, furious, upset. They aren’t sorry, at all! You’re sure of that. And that’s not okay, because they are not being direct. Once they interject a facetious tone it hurts the whole connection process.

5. Never Tell Others You Are Being “Honest”
We can quickly dispose of “honestly” and its evil dastardly cousins, “to tell you the truth” and “frankly.”

Just because others use these expressions every day doesn’t mean you should. Take a look at their literal interpretation:
“Honestly . . . because we both know my integrity is usually in doubt.”
“To tell you the truth. . . . because I exaggerate incessantly.”

When you say “honestly,” your listener consciously or unconsciously starts to wonder about you. Why do you have to say you’re being honest? You shouldn’t have to point it out . . . ever!

6. “I’m Just Saying . . .” Means “I’m Just Criticizing You”
Sometimes we like to criticize people but want to remain pristine and cordial by pretending we haven’t said anything critical at all.
Have you noticed that whenever you add, “I’m just saying,” it’s never preceded by a positive statement.
Example: You may say: “I think your budget projections are way off, but I’m just saying.” What the other person hears is: “I think your budget projections are way off, but I’m just questioning your competence.”

Some of these words have come out of my mouth in the past and still slip out
every now and then. It’s impossible to cleanse yourself of them
every moment of every day.
Take a look at the above sic and pick out the one that irritates you most. Count how many times you hear someone else use that expression today. Imagine how much more powerful each speaker would be without all those lame expressions.

Saudi Arabia Attacks Doctor Raouf Amin,
An Egyptian Whipping Boy,
who bowed To His ROYAL Patients

This is the 21st CENTURY and Saudi Arabia is Doing It Again. Or is there something We Don't Know about Egyptian Doctors and their conduct as well as Raouf Amin and his Royal Patients?

I can understand 1,500 lashes even Saudi Beheadings for some heinous crimes (when someone is a barbaric uncivilized human being in the 21st century, you must treat them accordingly as a deterrent to others, even in Democratic Countries) but surely not for simply supplying medication that had already proved effective for this Horse Riding, Back Aching, Demanding Saudi Princess.

Has this PRINCESS stopped taking MORPHINE, now that she knows what happens to Innocent Doctors who seek to alleviate the suffering of the Saudi Royal Family?

*

The Moral of the Story is Don't Work for Royalty anywhere, if they are going to punish you for simply doing your job.

Doctor Sentenced to 1,500 Lashes for Addicting Saudi Princess to Painkillers

Egyptian Raouf Amin languishes in a Saudi jail and is punished with 70 lashes once a week. Cut off from his family in Egypt, the 52-year-old doctor was convicted for prescribing painkillers to a Saudi princess that led to her addiction.

An appeal court judge ruled that Amin will be beaten weekly until he has received 1,500 lashes - and then he'll spend another 14 years behind bars.

The judge doubled the original punishment meted out to him a little over one year ago in the lower court where Amin was sentenced to a seven-year jail term with 750 lashes.

Not surprisingly, human rights groups and the Egyptian doctor's syndicate are outraged.

The doctor, who has lived and worked in the Gulf state for more than 20 years, had been treating the princess for several months for back pains after she visited the hospital in which he worked.

Ahmed Amin, the doctor's son, who himself was born in Saudi Arabia, claims the woman went into the hospital and specified the medication she wanted. The woman had been receiving similar treatment in the United States after she had fallen from a horse while riding.

Hafez Abu Saeda, the director of EOHR concurred that the medication Amin had prescribed was the same as the woman had been receiving in the United States, "so it is obvious that the doctor was not at fault for her addiction," Abu Saeda concluded.

Both the Egyptian foreign ministry and the Saudi Embassy in Cairo refused to comment on the case, saying the matter is still under investigation.

Heroes TV Series: Lessons That Can Awaken The Hero In You

I'm one of those people who spend more time on the internet than in front of a television. Apart from one or two shows, I am not really sure what’s airing on a regular basis. Over the weekend I got hold of the Heroes DVD series. The idea behind Heroes is that otherwise ordinary people start discovering that they have super-powers. Initially, they are confused but gradually they wake up to their calling. (Believe me, it much more interesting than what is described here. Watch it!)
Heroes TV SeriesAnyway, I am always on the lookout for good blog post ideas. While watching Heroes, it struck me that there is more meaning to its conversation; we can ponder, learn and apply it to our lives.

In spite the absence of super duper powers, in your own way, you are a hero as well. I don’t know whether you view yourself as such. I am not the first one to say this. Mariah Carey made a good case with her song Hero. Think about it. You can be a blogging hero, your better half might consider you a hero, to your child you may be a hero etc., So you see, you don’t need to paint the future, walk through walls, travel through time or turn water into wine. If you have the courage to do what is necessary, when it is necessary, you will realize, that a hero lies in you.
Every hero must learn his purpose. Then he'll be tested and called to greatness.
Reading the above quote, you might recall your job, your daily responsibilities or even your long-term goals. It refers to something much more greater; the very reason you exist. You may not believe in having a purpose or you may already have figured it out.
If you have discovered the purpose, that’s really great. Perhaps, the hardest part is keeping it with you on a daily basis; working on yourself to the point where you become that purpose.
It is man’s ability to remember, that sets us apart. We are the only species concerned with past. Our memories give us voice and bear witness to history, so that others might learn; so they might celebrate our triumphs and be warned of our failures.
This really sums up the mission of this blog! Believe it or not, this is the message I tried to get across in the About page. Admittedly, there are good mistakes (they help us learn as we live) and bad mistakes (the careless or chronic ones that plague the thoughtless or irresponsible). It naturally forms our past, and shapes our future.
A hero doesn't run away from his destiny. My only concern is whether I need to hide my true identity.
Being YOU is sometimes the hardest thing to do. People expect so many things from you. In times of turbulence, remember that your identity is your most valuable possession.
To survive in this world, we hold close to us those on whom we depend. We trust in them our hopes, our fears...
Family and Friends… They are the ones who will see you through your happy and sad moments; they are the ones you can count on when everything turns out wrong and everyone else is not on your side. If you are like me, you already know their importance.
When confronted by our worst nightmares, the choices are few; Fight or flight. We hope to find the strength to stand against our fears but sometimes, despite ourselves, we run...
Life throws you many curve balls and there are times when we all wish to “get away” from it all, even if for a while. The bitter truth is it doesn’t matter how far you run you can’t escape. Eventually, you have to force yourself to do what you thought was so impossible.
Where does it come from, this quest? This need to solve life's mysteries, when the simplest of questions can never be answered. Why are we here? What is the soul? Why do we dream? Perhaps we'd be better off not looking at all. Not doubting, not yearning. That's not human nature. Not the human heart. That is not why we are here.

Have you watched the Heroes TV series? Did you ever feel like that episode start phrase was talking to you? Sending you a message?

Using Humor As A Social Lubricant!

I just noticed that my recent posts at Enhance Life have been a bit heavy on the mind. So, today when I sat down to write a post, I made a pledge to steer clear of such genre.

After toying with several ideas, I decided to write about one characteristic I really admire in people; a sense of humor.
“If a man insisted always on being serious, and never allowed himself a bit of fun and relaxation, he would go mad or become unstable, without knowing it” ~Herodotus
We may not all be born comedians, but most people are naturally humorous. Some people effortlessly see humor in their surrounding, while others may not have such an easy flair for noticing the lighter side of things.

A Sense Of Humor Can Truly Save The Day

  • Pulling your hair out…screaming profanities…banging your head against the wall. These are all tempting ways to deal with the everyday situations that drive us crazy. Regardless of what brand of humor appeals to you, the ability to find humor in stressful or uncomfortable situations can provide important benefits to your psychological and physical well-being.

  • Humor enhances our ability to connect with others. Sometimes, it can increase trust and likability.

  • Humor can defuse negative emotions such as anger and guilt, spark
    enthusiasm, and inspire motivation.

  • At some point, we’ve all come across a tight-jawed sourpuss who takes everything with deathly seriousness and never laughs at anything. Expressing humor can reduce the inhibitions and increase the self-confidence of individuals who are otherwise shy and introverted by nature.

  • Humor helps us cope, conquer, and carry on. It actually makes us measurably tougher!
If you can laugh at it, you can survive it ~Bill Cosby

Humor: General Guidelines You Should Follow

There aren’t definite rules of what’s funny and what isn’t. It’s really a matter of personal taste. However, use humor with care by being mindful of the following.

1. Play Nice. Commiserate, don’t humiliate. Ensure that the person is enjoying your attempts at humor. Keep in mind that “inside jokes” can sometimes make people feel excluded.

2. Timing is everything. Humor doesn’t work in every situation. It can detract from a serious discussion. On the other hand, it can ease tensions when things get too serious. Also, don't use humor when someone else is suffering a serious crisis, or when you are attending a somber event, such as a funeral etc.

3. Don’t overuse humor. At times, there is a need to seriously confront other people or our own pain. Don’t mask the pain and don’t use humor as an excuse for not confronting others when necessary.

4. Find your own style. Some people are spontaneous and outgoing. Others are low key, watchful, and bemused. Some tell jokes or make others laugh in other ways.

Much of humor depends upon shared experiences.. seeing things the same way. It relies on your point of view, your beliefs on life, your way of thinking.
